The program guides outline the requirements for students in years one through four, for degree or diploma in Design. Any specific Liberal Studies or studio-seminar courses listed in the program guides will count toward the degree or diploma requirements as per the Liberal Studies guidelines.
BDes Degree
The Faculty of Design offers the Bachelor of Design degree with programs in Advertising, Environmental Design, Graphic Design, Illustration, Industrial Design and Material Art & Design. BDes students must complete Liberal Studies courses in specific areas of study including Humanities, Social Science, and Science/Technology/Mathematics as part of their Design program. Any elective opportunities listed in program requirements may be used to meet Liberal Studies degree requirements.
Please note that upper year degree students may be required to complete more than 20 credits to meet the degree requirements.

AOCAD Diploma
Students admitted to the Faculty of Design diploma program complete their studies in Advertising, Environmental Design, Graphic Design, Illustration, Industrial Design and Material Art & Design. Diploma students are required to include 4.0 credits of Liberal Studies courses in their Design program. The Liberal Studies courses are normally taken in the subject areas of History and Theory of Visual Culture and English. Diploma students may substitute studio-seminars for up to 1.0 credits of the Liberal Studies requirement.
